Kate & Jack’s Luxury Orthodox Wedding at the Elysium Hotel in Paphos, Cyprus
A Beautiful American-Cypriot Wedding Filled with Love, Tradition and Celebration
Some weddings have a special energy from the very beginning and Kate and Jack’s wedding at the magnificent Elysium Hotel in Paphos, Cyprus, was certainly one of them. Travelling from America to celebrate their love in Cyprus, Kate and Jack brought together family and friends for an unforgettable day filled with Greek Orthodox traditions, genuine emotions, laughter and an incredible atmosphere.
As a Cyprus wedding photographer, my aim is always to capture the real story of a wedding day as it naturally unfolds. Kate and Jack’s celebration was the perfect example of why I love documentary wedding photography: wonderful people, meaningful traditions and spontaneous moments that cannot be planned or repeated.
Their Story
‘‘On a warm July night in the summer of 2021, we met for our first date at The Wilder. True to form, Kate decided the night couldn’t end without an ocean swim under the stars. Even though Jack wasn’t exactly the adventurous type at the time, he said yes anyway and that simple “yes” changed everything. While floating in the ocean, Kate spotted two shooting stars and kept telling Jack to look up. Then, together, we saw a third streak across the sky. Later we found out it was during a meteor shower, but in that moment, it felt like fate.
From then on, everything came naturally. What started as weekly dates quickly turned into building a life together, through moves, career changes, exciting travel and all the unexpected turns along the way.
No matter what life has brought us, we’ve always stayed a team, supporting each other and dreaming about what’s we can’t wait to celebrate our next chapter surrounded by the people we love most, as our two lives, families, and friendships become one’’.
A Luxury Wedding at the Elysium Hotel, Paphos
The Elysium Hotel is one of the most elegant luxury wedding venues in Paphos, offering a beautiful setting for couples dreaming of a sophisticated destination wedding in Cyprus. With its distinctive architecture, Mediterranean atmosphere and timeless elegance, it provided a stunning backdrop for Kate and Jack’s wedding celebration.
For couples travelling from the United States or elsewhere in the world, Cyprus offers a wonderful combination of beautiful venues, warm hospitality and rich cultural traditions. Kate and Jack’s wedding brought all these elements together, creating a celebration that felt both luxurious and deeply personal.
Photographing a wedding at the Elysium Hotel is about more than capturing beautiful surroundings. It is about documenting the connections between people, the atmosphere of the celebration and the little details that make every wedding unique.
A Traditional Greek Orthodox Wedding Ceremony
With Kate’s American-Cypriot heritage, their Orthodox wedding was a meaningful celebration of family, culture and tradition. Greek Orthodox weddings are rich in symbolism, from the exchanging of the wedding crowns, known as stefana, to the ceremonial walk around the wedding table.
These moments offer so much more than beautiful photographs. They tell the story of a couple bringing their families together while honouring traditions passed down through generations.
My approach to Orthodox wedding photography in Cyprus is to document these traditions naturally and respectfully, capturing the important ceremonial moments alongside the genuine reactions, emotions and interactions happening around them.
From the meaningful moments of the ceremony to the happiness shared by their guests, Kate and Jack’s wedding was a wonderful reminder of how tradition and modern wedding celebrations can come together so beautifully.
A Fantastic Couple and an Unforgettable Celebration
One of the highlights of Kate and Jack’s wedding was the energy of their guests. This was a genuinely happy, fun-loving crowd who knew how to celebrate, creating an atmosphere full of laughter, excitement and spontaneous moments throughout the day.
These are the weddings I love photographing most. Rather than turning the day into a series of staged poses, I focus on observing what happens naturally: a spontaneous laugh, a warm embrace, an emotional glance or friends and family sharing a moment of pure happiness.
My style of documentary wedding photography in Cyprus is centred on real moments and honest storytelling. I believe your wedding photographs should bring you back to how the day actually felt, allowing you to relive the atmosphere and emotions for years to come.
Of course, there is always room for beautiful portraits and family photographs when needed. The balance is to capture everything that matters without taking the couple away from the experience of their own wedding.
Kate and Jack’s celebration offered so many opportunities to do exactly that.
A Wonderful Team Behind Kate and Jack’s Wedding
Creating a memorable wedding experience takes a great team and it was a pleasure to be part of Kate and Jack’s special day.
Hajni, the host and in-house wedding planner at the Elysium Hotel, helped bring the celebration together, while Kyriakos from True Wedding Films captured the day through cinematography, the beautiful wedding decorations by Cyprus Wedding Decorations complemented the elegance of the Elysium Hotel.
Working alongside talented wedding professionals allows each of us to focus on our own craft while contributing to the bigger picture: preserving the memories, atmosphere and emotions of a couple’s wedding day.
My philosophy is simple: photograph the moments!
As an independent wedding photographer based in Paphos, Cyprus, I specialise in documentary-style wedding photography, capturing weddings through genuine emotions, natural interactions and thoughtful storytelling. I work personally with my couples, documenting their day from the preparations and ceremony through to the celebrations, without turning their wedding into a photoshoot.
